Baby School – crawling and creeping, not yet walking

Please note!

Events that include a teacher or instructor will be held in Latvian.

We are forming a group for little ones who are already slithering or crawling, but not yet walking for our baby school – classes for the little one together with mom, dad, or another close adult.

From March 12, every Thursday at 1:00 PM at Ulbrokas iela 34a

The baby school is led by Anna Putene – an early development specialist, mother of two, and a certified educator with over ten years of experience working with young children.

In the classes, we will work on:

  • crawling quality (symmetry, coordination, rhythm);
  • transitions between positions (lying – sitting – on all fours – kneeling – standing with support);
  • development of core muscles, balance, and sense of support;
  • weight transfer and rotational movements;
  • preparing feet, ankles, and hips for vertical load;
  • safe standing up and sitting down skills.

You can attend either a single session or a full cycle (8 sessions) to gain a structured and comprehensive understanding.

Session duration ~1.5h
Space is limited

Participation fee for one session – €25

About Anna

My name is Anna Putene. I am an early development specialist, a mother of two, and a certified educator with over ten years of experience working with young children.

In my work, I use the First Step method, which is based on the Feldenkrais approach and holistic principles, emphasizing child development as a unified process influenced by movement, psycho-emotional state, sensory needs, and relationships with parents.

I lead individual consultations and group sessions for parents, with the main goal of explaining child development and providing practical, everyday tools – games, play, and techniques that help make daily life easier, naturally develop the child’s skills, and unlock their full potential.

More about the classes

The focus of these sessions is movement quality, cognitive development, and the gradual formation of the child’s autonomy — physically and emotionally preparing for independent walking.

Cognitive skills and development of thinking

Movement at this age is closely linked to the development of thinking. We purposefully promote:

  • understanding of cause and effect;
  • problem-solving skills through movement;
  • attention span and switching;
  • spatial thinking and strengthening the body schema;
  • analytical thinking through a systemic approach (the child learns to understand “how it works” – support, weight, distance, direction).

We use tasks where the child looks for the solution themselves rather than receiving ready-made help — this strengthens cognitive flexibility and confidence in their own abilities.

Emotional development, socialization, and separation

At this stage, gradual separation from parents becomes particularly relevant. The class environment:

  • supports the maintenance of secure attachment;
  • promotes the child’s ability to move away for a short time and return;
  • strengthens emotional resilience while learning new skills;
  • helps build healthy autonomy without coercion.
  • encourages communication with other adults and children

The goal is a harmonious transition from exploring the world horizontally to vertical movement, while maintaining the child’s sense of security, initiative, and internal stability.
